Weiser, ID

this week, Jake is gone to a small town called Weiser, id. it is on the oregon/idaho border. the town isn't big enough for a motel, so he drives over to oregon for lodging. as with every other small, rural town, dining options are at a minimum: there is always 1 well known fast food place (McDonalds, Subway, Wendy's..etc) and 1 mexican restaurant.

this week they are lucky to have Quiznos and a mexican restaurant in their client's town.

while jake is away, i am busy placing vending machines and painting the bedroom.

i am ecstatic for him to get back..but i know he is gaining a very valuable experience in no-man's-land.

side table

I have started a new hobby buying old, ugly pieces of furniture from thrift stores and making them cute and desired again.

My most recent piece:

I am selling it for $100. If anyone is interested or knows of someone who would be.

Jake's dinner request

Tonight, as many nights go, I did not want to decide what we would be eating for dinner. So, I asked Jake. Usually the conversation goes something like this:

"What do you want for dinner, Jake?"
"Oh, whatever"
"No, seriously, what do you want."
"I seriously don't care."

So then I make whatever I want and Jake is tickled to death over whatever it is. Sounds pretty great, right? Well, it is great. I have an awesome husband.

Well, tonight went a little bit different.

"What do you want for dinner, Jake?"
"Oh, whatever."
"Seriously, I am putting my foot down. I don't want to decide."
"Ok. I want steak."
"Awesome! I can do steak."
"Aaaand...(thinking face)....Mac & Cheese."
"Ok. Steak and Mac &Cheese it is."

So I put my man in charge of the Mac & Cheese portion of our main course and I took over the steak part. I am just going to come out and say it...Jake made the BEST Mac & Cheese I have ever tasted. I didn't know it could be so good.

One of the Happiest Days of My Life!

The Breakfast Nook is DONE!

here i go again..

apparently i cannot be satisfied with the look of my blog. so i have gone and redone it again. this may or may not be an ongoing thing. it's hard to say at the moment. i have streaks where i cannot be satisfied, so i do things over and over and over again until i am tired of doing it. so, alas, bear with me as i find my perfect blog page.

sleeping

jake has been having trouble sleeping. this weekend, he got some sleeping pills from a drug dealer who, for security purposes, we will refer to as A. Reed. wait, i would rather refer to her as Ann R.

anyway. he took these sleep helpers the first couple days of this week. he has fallen into a nice, deep, restful sleep, waking up fresh and happy the next morning.

what are the consequences? i will elaborate.

monday night:

me: (reaching up to turn the light off)
jake: (stroking my side) sigh. you're fine.
me: thanks
jake: i'm glad you're mine.
me: i'm glad i'm yours too
jake: (nose scrunched up) you dog!
me: goodnight, i love you
jake: rouveroutoooo...
me: (chuckling)

few moments later

jake: KAY!!! (yelling at the top of his lungs and bouncing a
little with the combined force of the yelling and
              his flailing arms)

not long after some horrible breathing sounds

jake: is that too hard?

tuesday night:

jake: (mimicking what i had told him he had said the previous night)
       you're fine. i'm glad you're mine
      (chuckles at himself)
       rouveyoutoo..
(chuckles again, a 'pleased with himself' look on his face)

more horrible breathing sounds

jake: did you deliver that email?
me: to who?
jake: mmmmmmmmmmmm.... okay (nodding his head approvingly)
me: (chuckling)

needless to say, i have not gotten that much sleep. staying awake is more entertaining.

home improvements

dining room complete with red wall

dining room: almost complete

one corner of the dining room. my old desk.
breakfast nook before: dark, depressing, dungeon
breakfast nook: less dungeon-like, but has
more work needed

the trim was a creamish-tan color. when next to the yellow, it make the yellow and the trim look dirty. the trim
is getting painted bright white as is the ceiling. i'll post when these things happen.

changes

changes can be good and bad. usually it is hard to go through a change. sometimes it is easy and very much anticipated. for example, this blog needed some changes: new pictures, etc.

some more thoughts on change: i like it. but i don't always like it at the moment. it is uncomfortable, but i guess that is the part i like. i like looking at who i am now and realizing that i am so much more than who i was.

"change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal"

some of my changes:

  • going from Oliverson to Reed
  • moving from preston to washington dc
  • becoming a world traveller
  • moving to spokane
  • buying a house
  • being a housewife for the aforementioned house
  • studying biology
  • loving thrift stores
  • finding ways to save money
  • cooking!
  • and presently, beautifying the house that has been mentioned a couple times
